1-Acetyl-4-chloro-1H-indazole is an organic solvent that belongs to the class of inorganic, aromatic compounds. This compound can be prepared by refluxing acetyl chloride with indazole. It is a precursor for the synthesis of other organic compounds. The reaction process can be divided into two parts: in the first part, an acetyl group is introduced and in the second part, deacetylation takes place. Acetyl chloride reacts with indazole to form 1-acetyl-4-chloro-1H-indazole. Deacetylation of 1-acetyl-4-chloro-1H-indazole produces 4'-chloroacetanilide and hydrogen chloride gas as a byproduct.
