Glyphosate is an organophosphorus compound that inhibits the enzyme EPSP synthase, which is involved in the synthesis of three amino acids: tryptophan, tyrosine, and phenylalanine. It also inhibits other enzymes such as 5-enolpyruvylshikimate-3-phosphate synthase (EPSPS) and chorismate synthase.
