TAK-071 is an allosteric modulator that acts to increase the activity of dopamine in the striatum. In knockout mice, TAK-071 has been shown to improve motor function and increase striatal dopamine levels. It has also been shown to be effective in clinical studies for improving symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. TAK-071 increases acetylcholine release and increases the response of cholinergic receptors, which are involved in learning and memory. The drug also has a therapeutic effect on patterning defects in wild-type mice and improves hippocampal formation, which may be due to its ability to cross the blood-brain barrier.
