PF 04937319 is a small molecule that has been designed to inhibit the activity of glucokinase, an enzyme involved in glucose metabolism. PF 04937319 is structurally similar to the natural substrate of glucokinase and binds to the same site on the enzyme. This compound has been shown to reduce plasma glucose levels in mice and humans with type 2 diabetes (T2D) by inhibiting renal glucose reabsorption. The pharmacokinetics of PF 04937319 have been studied in healthy volunteers and T2D patients; it was found that this compound can be titrated effectively for clinical use.
