BPDMB has been shown to cause contractility of isolated intestinal muscle cells in a dose dependent manner. It also inhibits acetylcholine release from incubated rat ileum. BPDMB is an important component for pest control because it can be used as a synergist with ammonium nitrate or hydroxyanisole to increase their toxicity. It is also used as a feeding deterrent by mixing it with foodstuffs such as corn and wheat bran.
