This reaction is called alkylation. The product of this reaction is called an alkyl bromide. 3-Bromobutyl)benzene can also react with primary amines to form (3-bromobutyl)anilines. These reactions are catalyzed by palladium, which is used as a catalyst for these reactions because of its ability to bind to both the nucleophile and the amine in these reactions.
