2-(5-cyano-1-methyl-1H-pyrrol-2-yl)acetic acid is an organic compound that is a reaction product of methanol and an aryl halide. It has anti-inflammatory properties and can be used to synthesize potassium cyanide, which in turn can be used as a reagent for the synthesis of tolmetin, an anti-inflammatory drug. 2-(5-cyano-1-methyl-1H-pyrrol-2-yl)acetic acid can be synthesized by refluxing diethyl ether with chloral hydrate and adding a grignard reagent. This synthesis can also be carried out using a grignard reaction.
