N-Cbz-2-amino-1,3-propanediol is a propanediol that is synthesized by biocatalysis. It can be used in the synthesis of other compounds and has been shown to be useful in the production of pancreas extracts. The systematic study of N-Cbz-2-amino-1,3-propanediol has shown that it is a good substrate for pancreatic lipase. In addition, this compound is enantiopure and does not react with metal ions such as zinc or stannous octoate. The enzyme preparations can be acetylated or desymmetrized to produce a desired product.
