Descripción:3-Bromo-4,5-dimethylphenol is a bromination product of the structurally related compound 4,5-dimethylphenol. The electrophilic character of 3-bromo-4,5-dimethylphenol is due to the bromine atom. It can be used as an intermediate for the synthesis of other chemicals. Bromination of 4,5-dimethylphenol takes place in two steps: first a nucleophilic attack by bromide ion on one of the carbon atoms in 4,5-dimethylphenol and then an electrophilic substitution reaction between the bromine atom and one of the hydroxyl groups.
