Descripción:Big endothelin-1 is a peptide that belongs to the class of endothelin family. It is used as a research tool in cell biology and pharmacology, because it binds to the ET-A receptor, which is a ligand-gated ion channel. Big endothelin-1 has been shown to activate this receptor, leading to an increase in intracellular calcium levels and vasoconstriction. It also inhibits the production of nitric oxide by endothelial cells and inhibits the activity of phospholipase A2. Big endothelin-1 has been shown to be an inhibitor of angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE).
