Firuglipel is a fatty acid that belongs to the group of phospholipids. It has been shown to have a positive effect on hepatic steatosis, as well as on lipid and glucose metabolism in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. The mechanism of action of firuglipel may be related to its ability to bind and activate growth factors, such as insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) and hepatocyte growth factor (HGF). Firuglipel also increases the production of lipoproteins, which may contribute to its beneficial effects on hepatic steatosis.
