Boswellic acid is a pentacyclic triterpene isolated from the gum resin of the olibanum tree, which is found in India and Pakistan. Boswellic acid is one of the most important phytochemicals found in Indian Ayurvedic medicine and it has potent anti-inflammatory and antileukemic activity. It also has been shown to be an effective inhibitor of platelet aggregation, which may help to prevent thrombosis. 3-o-Acetyl-11-hydroxy-β-boswellic acid is a synthetic analog of boswellic acid that was developed for high throughput screening applications.
