The synthetic process for rabeprazole sodium involves the reaction of maleic anhydride and protonated benzene or phenol. The powder diffraction spectrum for this molecule exhibits peaks at 2θ = 6.6°, 7.7°, 8.8°, 12.2°, 15.1°, 16.9°, 18° and 19°. Maleic anhydride is used as a starting material in the synthesis process and can be synthesized from ethylene glycol and phthalic anhydride
