Prosaptide tx 14(A) is a peptide that is reactive to gp120, which is a protein on the surface of cells. It has been shown to have a number of effects on humans, including neuropathic and inflammatory syndromes. Prosaptide tx 14(A) may also be effective in treating pertussis, with its affinity for the surface of the bacteria. This drug has also been shown to have nootropic effects in animals by increasing nerve growth factor levels and inhibiting neuronal death. The mechanism of action for this drug is not well understood but it may be due to either ligation or neurotrophic activity.
