2-(Chloromethyl)-6-nitrobenzoxazole is an organic compound that belongs to the class of benzoxazoles. It has been shown to have synergistic effects with cyclopropanes in a mechanistic study. The mechanistic studies showed that 2-(chloromethyl)-6-nitrobenzoxazole reacts with cyclopropanes in a nucleophilic substitution reaction to form 1,2,3-triazoles. This reaction is stereoselective, giving predominantly the (S) enantiomer. The mechanism of this reaction is believed to be due to conformation and steric interactions between the substituents on the benzoxazole ring and the substituents on the cyclopropane ring. In addition, this compound has been shown to act as an important catalyst for alkylidene and cyclopropanation reactions.
