ZnAF-2 is a potentiator that binds to receptors on the surface of cells. It is an extracellular signal transducer and activator of transcription (ESAT) that enhances intracellular calcium levels. ZnAF-2 has been shown to be effective in pancreatic cells, where it was found to increase intracellular calcium levels and stimulate insulin secretion. It also has been shown to have locomotor activity in mice, with a stimulatory effect on glutamate receptors in the brain. The mechanism of action of ZnAF-2 is not known, but it has been suggested that its effects may be due to increased receptor activity or changes in hydroxyl group levels.
