TC-G 1008 is a novel, selective allosteric modulator of the serotonin 5-HT2A receptor. TC-G 1008 has been shown to produce antidepressant responses in rats and mice, as well as an antidepressant-like effect in the forced swim test, without the typical side effects of other antidepressants. TC-G 1008 also has immunomodulatory properties and may be useful for the treatment of hepatitis B and C. The compound was found to have a long half-life and low clearance rate, which are favorable pharmacokinetic properties for oral administration. TC-G 1008 binds to chemoattractant protein (CPA) in rat hepatocytes, leading to increased migration of these cells into the liver tissue. This is associated with an increase in matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) activity and enhanced activation of hepatic stellate cells.
