Pelitrexol is a pharmaceutical dosage of the active form of telithromycin, which is a semi-synthetic macrolide antibiotic with broad-spectrum activity. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells in vitro and in vivo. Pelitrexol is an ester prodrug that is hydrolyzed to telithromycin in the body. Telithromycin binds to terminal half-life and inhibits tumor growth by blocking mcl-1 protein expression, which regulates cell death. The exact mechanism of action for Pelitrexol is not known but it may be due to its hydroxyl group that can interfere with inflammatory responses or its chemoenzymatic properties.
