7-Bromo-D-tryptophan is an indole that is a member of the class of bromoindoles. It has been shown to be a useful reagent for the selective alkylation of nucleophiles with yields ranging from 20% to 95%. The cyclic nature of 7-bromo-D-tryptophan allows it to act as a chiral center and allow regioselectivity in reactions. It has been used in the synthesis of enantiopure sulfamidates, which are compounds with both amino and acid moieties. 7-Bromo-D-tryptophan is also used as an intermediate in the synthesis of d,l-serine.
