It has been shown to improve the survival and proliferation of photoreceptor cells in rats with retinopathy. NSC23005 sodium enhances transcription factors, such as Sox2, which are involved in photoreceptor development. This drug also increases the differentiation of pluripotent stem cells into photoreceptor cells in culture. NSC23005 sodium is administered as a powder for oral administration, which can be mixed with water or food.
