Secologanate is an inhibitor of ion channels, which are membrane-spanning proteins that control the flow of ions in and out of cells. It also inhibits protein interactions by blocking the binding site on one molecule for a second molecule. Secologanate has been shown to inhibit the ion channel TRPV1, which is involved in pain sensation. Secologanate has also been shown to be a ligand for the human angiotensin II receptor type 1 (AT1R).
