Ethyl 2-(2-oxo-2H-chromen-7-yloxy)acetate is a coumarin derivative. It is used in the preparation of pharmaceutical preparations as a vasodilator and to protect against uv irradiation. This drug has been shown to be effective in protecting against gemini, which are dimers that form when two adjacent pyrimidine bases pair with each other. Ethyl 2-(2-oxo-2H-chromen-7-yloxy)acetate has also been shown to have antiarrhythmic properties, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the reuptake of catecholamines and increase the production of nitric oxide.
