(2R,3R,4R,5S)-1-Benzyl-2-(hydroxymethyl)piperidine-3,4,5-triol is an antiviral compound that has been shown to inhibit viral replication by inhibiting the production of viral proteins and nucleic acids. It also inhibits the activity of glucosidase enzymes in the intestines. The drug is metabolized in the liver and kidneys with an average elimination half-life of about 5 hours. This drug is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and distributed to most tissues. (2R,3R,4R,5S)-1-Benzyl-2-(hydroxymethyl)piperidine-3,4,5-triol is hydrophilic and has a bioavailability of about 50%.
