N-(4-Acetyl-4,5-dihydro-5-methyl-5-phenyl-1,3,4-thiadia zol-2-yl)acetamide is a heterologous analog of 5'-aminoacyl tRNA synthetase that can be used to transfer sequence data from one host cell to another. The compound has been found to be useful in the translation of proteins and transfer of genetic information between cells. N-(4-Acetyl-4,5-dihydro-5-methyl-5-phenyl 1,3,4thiadiazo l 2 yl)acetamide is a substrate for translation by the ribosome and is also capable of binding to the ribosome with high affinity.
