4'-Demethyleucomin is a fluorescent dye that has been shown to bind to aluminium in the lungs. The binding of this dye with aluminium particles is reversible and depends on the duration of exposure. 4'-Demethyleucomin has been used for the detection of lung toxicity in rats and mice, where it was shown that the uptake of this dye was increased with increasing doses. 4'-Demethyleucomin is also used for diagnostic purposes, as it binds to human proteins and can be detected by electron microscopy. The average particle diameter of 4'-demethyleucomin is approximately 1.7 nm.
