5,7-Di-O-methyl-8-prenylflavanone is a flavonoid that has significant cytotoxic activity. It is able to inhibit the growth of human cancer cells and tumour cells, as well as induce apoptosis in these cells. This compound also has a profile of significant cytotoxic rotenoids such as ursolic acid and oleanolic acid. 5,7-Di-O-methyl-8-prenylflavanone also inhibits DNA synthesis by inhibiting RNA polymerase II and protein synthesis by inhibiting ribosomes. 5,7-Di-O-methyl-8-prenylflavanone can be used to treat cancer and tumours.
