Descripción

Diffractic acid is a naturally-occurring compound that has been found in lichens and fungi. It is an acidic, heterocyclic fatty acid with structural similarities to protonated fatty acids. Diffractic acid inhibits the activity of enzymes such as proteases, lipases, and phospholipases. The use of this compound in tissue culture has been shown to have a positive effect on the production of proteins, such as interleukin-2, which is important for cell proliferation. Diffractic acid has also been shown to stimulate natural killer cells and inhibit cancer cell growth in vitro. This compound is not toxic to healthy cells and does not affect protein synthesis or DNA replication.
