6-Bromo-3-methylquinoline is a heterocyclic aromatic organic compound that is synthesized by the reaction of aniline with mesitylene. This compound has been used as a precursor to other heterocyclic compounds. 6-Bromo-3-methylquinoline can be used in the synthesis of chloroquine and naphthyl amines, which are pharmaceuticals. The catalytic dehydrogenation of 6-bromo-3,5-dimethoxybenzene to 6-bromoquinoline is shown below:
