Epi-podophyllotoxin is a natural product that is obtained from the rhizomes of Podophyllum peltatum and other plants in the genus Podophyllum. It has been shown to have antineoplastic properties and can be used for the treatment of various types of cancer, including leukemia, skin cancer, and prostate cancer. Epi-podophyllotoxin inhibits cell proliferation by binding to DNA and inhibiting transcription. This inhibition may be due to its ability to bind with RNA polymerase II during transcription. The compound also inhibits protein synthesis by binding to ribosomal proteins during translation. Epi-podophyllotoxin has been shown to inhibit the production of malondialdehyde (MDA) as well as reactive oxygen species (ROS), which are both byproducts of lipid peroxidation.
