Ferruginin A is a natural product that belongs to the genus Ephedra. It has been shown to inhibit apoptosis in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and cancer cells. Ferruginin A also inhibits survivin, which is a protein involved in the apoptosis pathway. However, ferruginin A does not have any inhibitory effect on the production of multidrug resistance proteins such as mcf-7. This drug has been shown to be toxic in mice, but this toxicity may be due to inhibition of protein synthesis rather than inhibition of cell division.
