(+)-Gallocatechin is a natural compound that belongs to the group of flavonoids. It is found in green tea and other plants such as cranberries, strawberries, apples, blueberries, and pears. (+)-Gallocatechin has been shown to have antioxidant properties by inhibiting lipid peroxidation and scavenging free radicals. It also inhibits the growth of 3T3-L1 preadipocytes by blocking energy metabolism. This compound plays an important role in mitochondrial functions and can be used as a model system for studying gallate derivatives. (+)-Gallocatechin has been shown to have physiological effects on cells through its inhibition of DNA polymerase chain reactions (PCR) in cell-specific ways.
