Integerrimine-N-oxid is a n-oxide of the alkaloid retrorsine. It has biological properties that are similar to those of epidermal growth factor, and has been shown to stimulate epidermal growth in adult rats. Integerrimine-N-oxid may also have some medicinal properties as a growth factor, although this has not been proven. The major metabolite of integerrimine-N-oxid is retrorsine, which is a quinolizidine alkaloid with known antimalarial activity. This compound can be used for sample preparation and analysis by gas chromatography using electron capture detection (GC/ECD).
