Isodesoxypodophyllotoxin is a novel anticancer compound that has been shown to induce apoptosis in cancer cells. It binds to DNA and induces the activity of pro-apoptotic protein, resulting in a matrix effect that inhibits cell proliferation. Isodesoxypodophyllotoxin also has potent inducers for toll-like receptors, which causes an inflammatory response. This compound has been shown to be more potent than deoxypodophyllotoxin, a known inducer of apoptosis. Isodesoxypodophyllotoxin is a promising experimental model for breast cancer drug discovery.
