Descripción

(+)-Maackiain is an isoflavonoid isolated from the root of Pueraria lobata. This molecule has been shown to have a protective effect against skin cancer by inhibiting the growth of human melanoma cells (HL-60 cells) in vitro. (+)-Maackiain also inhibits allergic symptoms in mice, as well as enzyme activities involved in the synthesis of isoflavonoids. The pharmacokinetics of (+)-maackiain have been studied in rats and show that it has cell-specific localization, with high concentrations found in the lung and liver and lower levels found in the kidney and spleen.
