Descripción:Metolachlor is a herbicide that is used to control broadleaf weeds, grasses, and sedges. It inhibits the growth of plants by blocking photosynthesis in the leaves. Metolachlor is commonly used on lawns, golf courses and pastures. Metolachlor also has sublethal effects on animals such as mammals and birds. In mammals, metolachlor may cause bladder cancer or malformations in the reproductive organs. In birds, metolachlor causes abnormalities in the beak and deformation of the skull. The developmental effects of metolachlor are not fully understood but it has been shown to interfere with retinoic acid metabolism in frogs and rats. This interference leads to abnormal development of limbs and other organs.
