WWL113 is a fatty acid that belongs to the class of amides. It inhibits bacterial growth and has an antimicrobial effect against bacteria, fungi, and viruses. When tested on human cells, WWL113 showed immunomodulatory effects, inhibiting the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-1β and IL-6. In addition, WWL113 was shown to inhibit 2-arachidonoylglycerol (2AG) signaling in monocytes from patients with inflammatory disease. This inhibition leads to decreased production of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNFα, IL-1β, IL-6 and IL-8 in monocytic cells from patients with inflammatory diseases.
WWL 113 also has an inhibitory effect on the CB2 receptor by binding to it without activating it.
