Pinocembrin is a natural compound found in propolis. It has been shown to inhibit the release of proinflammatory cytokines and reduce neuronal death in mice. Pinocembrin also inhibits the growth of oral pathogens, such as Streptococcus mutans and Porphyromonas gingivalis. Pinocembrin is a response element for Toll-like receptor 4, which may contribute to its anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties. Pinocembrin exhibits antioxidant and anti-atherosclerotic effects, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the expression of inflammatory genes by suppressing NF-κB activity.
