Pantoprazole magnesium is a proton pump inhibitor that is used to treat stomach and duodenal ulcers, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, gastroesophageal reflux disease, and other conditions involving excess stomach acid. This antibiotic inhibits the growth of bacteria by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit. Pantoprazole magnesium also has antiviral activity against influenza A (H1N1) virus and herpes simplex virus type 1. It binds to viral RNA in the cytosol and prevents protein synthesis, inhibiting viral replication. Pantoprazole magnesium has been shown to inhibit various types of fungi as well.
