2,4,6-trihydroxy-4'-methoxydesoxybenzoin (2,4,6-TRHB) is a control agent that can be used in the treatment of radiation-induced brain damage. It has been shown to have a protective effect on microglia cells and to reduce the production of reactive oxygen species. 2,4,6-TRHB also inhibits 17β-estradiol production by stimulating the synthesis of biochanin and other metabolites. 2,4,6-TRHB is not active against cancer cells but has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties by inhibiting proinflammatory cytokines such as TNFα and IL1β. 2,4,6-TRHB also inhibits necrosis factor (TNFα) and isoflavones may provide neuroprotection via antioxidative effects.
