2,6-Bis[4R,5S)-4,5-dihydro-4,5-diphenyl-2-oxazolyl]pyridine is an organic solvent that is soluble in water. It has a refluxing temperature of 178°C and a boiling point of 240°C. It is used as a reagent to prepare chiral ligands for asymmetric synthesis. The enantiomer with the (1R,2S) configuration is more soluble than the (1S,2R) enantiomer. 2,6-Bis[4R,5S)-4,5-dihydro-4,5-diphenyl-2-oxazolyl]pyridine can be purified by recrystallization or by fractional crystallization with ethyl acetate as the solvent.
