TGR5 receptor agonist is a drug that activates the TGR5 receptor and has been shown to have potent anti-inflammatory properties. This drug inhibits the production of bile acids, which are important for maintaining the integrity of the gut lining. TGR5 receptor agonist also prevents mitochondrial membrane potential from decreasing, which in turn prevents cell death. It is not toxic in vitro and has shown efficacy in vivo with bowel disease models. The mechanism of action may be due to its ability to inhibit cyclase activity and reduce intracellular calcium levels by binding to DNA.
