Zeorin is a natural phenolic compound that is found in lichens. Zeorin has antioxidative properties and can be used as an anti-inflammatory agent. It has been shown to have therapeutic effects on basophilic leukemia, which is a type of leukemia characterized by the overproduction of white blood cells called basophils. Preparative high performance liquid chromatography analysis has demonstrated that zeorin contains hydroxyl groups and phenolic acids, including gyrophoric acid and stictic acid. In addition, zeorin has been shown to have pharmacokinetic properties that are comparable to the synthetic drug usnic acid.
