5,7,8-Trimethoxyflavone is a flavonoid that has been isolated from the plants Alnus glutinosa, Umbelliferae and Eupatorium chinense. It has shown potential for use in treating Candida albicans and Bacillus cereus infections. 5,7,8-Trimethoxyflavone also has anti-inflammatory effects and may have a role in the treatment of arthritis by inhibiting the production of prostaglandins.
5,7,8-Trimethoxyflavone inhibits bacterial growth through inhibition of RNA synthesis and protein synthesis by binding to ribosomes. It also displays anti-inflammatory properties by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis.
