Guanabenz is a drug that belongs to the group of drugs called centrally acting alpha-agonists. It is used for the treatment of heart disease and high blood pressure. This medication has been shown to decrease collagen content in heart tissue, which may help to reduce cardiac hypertrophy. Guanabenz also inhibits the development of cardiac hypertrophy by inhibiting chemical diversity in chronic kidney disease. This drug also has anti-inflammatory properties, so it can be used for treating autoimmune diseases. The mechanism of action is not well understood, but it is believed that ganabenz acts on the cytosolic side of cells where it modulates immune responses.
