L-2-Phosphoglyceric acid disodium hydrate is an important factor in controlling cell proliferation and growth. When it is present at high levels, it can inhibit the activity of an enzyme called phosphatase, which breaks down ATP into adenosine diphosphate (ADP). This inhibition leads to a buildup of ATP, which causes cells to grow rapidly.
