Uncaric acid is a triterpenic acid that belongs to the group of ursene carboxylic acids. Uncaric acid has been shown to inhibit the production of inflammatory prostaglandin E2 and leukotriene B4, which are the main mediators of inflammation in asthma. It also inhibits platelet aggregation and thrombosis by inhibiting the release of serotonin from platelets. Uncaric acid is found in plants such as Uncaria thwaitesii, which is used in traditional Chinese medicine for the treatment of fever, pain relief, and as an anti-inflammatory agent for rheumatism.
