Zaleplon is a ligand that binds to the GABA-A receptor, which is an ion channel that regulates the flow of chloride ions into neurons. This inhibition prevents the flow of chloride ions and reduces neuronal activity, leading to sedation. Zaleplon has been shown to have an affinity for the alpha 1 subunit of the GABA-A receptor and inhibitory effects on receptors in rat brain tissue. It has also been shown to be a highly selective inhibitor of peptide ligand binding with high purity. Zaleplon is used as a research tool in cell biology and pharmacology, as well as an antibody or protein interactions.
