WAY-100135 is a potent and selective antagonist of the α2C-adrenergic receptor. It has been used in studies to characterize the role of this receptor subtype in the regulation of cardiovascular function, as well as for research into the potential therapeutic use of α2C-adrenergic antagonists in disorders such as hypertension, angina pectoris, congestive heart failure, cardiac arrhythmias, and ischemic heart disease. WAY-100135 is also used to investigate mechanisms underlying central nervous system effects of drugs that act at other receptors.
