Ethyl 3-amino-5-methyl-1H-pyrrole-2-carboxylate is an inhibitor of the enzyme thymidylate synthase. This compound has been shown to inhibit the growth of tumor cells in culture and to be selective for cancer cells, making it a potential chemotherapeutic agent. Ethyl 3-amino-5-methyl-1H-pyrrole-2-carboxylate has also been shown to have antifolate activity and is a nonclassical inhibitor of reductase inhibitors.
