It has been used as a crystallization tag for x-ray diffraction experiments at high temperatures and can be used to study the complex formation of oximes with metals. 3DMPN is volatile and has anticonvulsant properties. 3DMPN also displays thermal stability, which makes it useful in stability tests involving coordination compounds.
